The Comedy of Errors is one of William Shakespeare’s earliest and most farcical plays. Even at this point in his career, Shakespeare demonstrated a mastery of intricate plotting, wordplay, puns, and slapstick.  The play is based on the Roman playwright Plautus’ Menaechmi but Shakespeare doubles the amount of mistaken identity by including two sets of identical twins instead of just the one set in Plautus’ original.  It’s a ribald rousing good time meant to simply entertain.  The Red Masquers’ production is set in 1902 at the height of the ragtime era and is set to a score of Scott Joplin’s jaunty rag music.
